Spring Concerts are almost here!

All choir members can help spread the word. The flyer is attached in jpg format. [on home page] Please post a printed copy on any community bulletin boards in your area. Post on Facebook or other social media and send reminders to friends, in person or by email. It is helpful to attach the flyer so that people have all the details at hand. Also attached is the press release, which provides sample wording if needed. Of course personalize the text however you wish. If you need any help with this, please contact Cynthia Taylor at cetaylormade@gmail.com.

If you have friends and family who can attend either concert, please encourage them to choose Medford’s performance on Friday evening. The Ashland concert is usually packed.

Dress code for the Spring Concerts is “whites and brights.”  It’s a nicer occasion, so we won’t be wearing t-shirts. Wear white pants or skirt, bright solid-colored top (no prints), and neutral shoes that are comfortable for standing.

Berti will be coordinating our entrances and exits during the concerts. Watch her for instructions for getting on and off stage. If you will need a chair during performances, please let her know right away so we can plan ahead.

Charlie said the library work party was great and our music is much more organized. Please return your sheet music after the Spring Concerts. Erase any notes you made first.

The End-of-Season Celebration will be May 22, our last meeting before we wish each other a nice summer. We’ll review the year, see the budget, thank our volunteers, and introduce new board members. Jewelry will be for sale to raise funds for the choir, next year’s repertoire will be announced, and we will eat cake!

The Rogue Valley Peace Choir — now celebrating its 22nd year — is presenting a concert entitled Be a Light. The choir — directed by Rob Griswell-Lowry and accompanied by Dr. Mikiko Petrucelli — is a community, secular choir dedicated to building peace, equality, social justice, and stewardship of our planet through song.  The concert’s Be a Light theme is inspired by one of the songs in the choir’s repertoire that encourages people not to “hide in the dark,” but to be a light in a world full of hate, to be peace in a time full of war, and to make a difference where change is needed. Other songs in the repertoire express the choir’s passion for recognizing the connection to everyone in our community and beyond; for supporting social justice, diversity and self-acceptance; and for treading lightly on our Mother Earth.  While the concerts are free, donations of any amount are welcome, with a suggested donation of $15 for adults; no one will be turned away. Donations support the choir’s ability to perform for free at schools, senior homes, and community events throughout the year. See more about the choir and its staff at http://roguevalleypeacechoir.org.

May 4 from 4-6 pm at Ashland library’s Gresham Room,
Carolee is giving a slideshow about her experience as a former Peace Corps Volunteer. Carolee served in Senegal from 1968-70. Then during the Covid pandemic, she authored a book, which reached Senegal President Macky Sall. He asked Carolee to come visit him in Senegal! Here’s a link to a 2021 Mail-Tribune article about it:
